New date for Sonning Tennis Open Day – 27th May

We now have a new date for our Annual Open Day – Sunday 27th May.

Our Open Day booked for 29th April 2012 was rained off so we now have a new date and we invite all members and visitors to come along to the club on the new date.

We will be showing off our 3 courts in prime condition, our new club house and toilet and there will be a free coaching session for adults and mini tennis for the juniors.

Unbelievable bad weather! Rain and wind all day!

Therefore, unfortunately due to the weather conditions the annual SLTC Open Day has been cancelled.

The committee will be organising another date for the event as it is an important date in the SLTC calendar.

Open Day Sunday 29th April 2012

We have an Open Day every year.

This year we will be holding the Open Day from 11am to 3pm on the Sunday 29th April.

Come along to see the club’s facilities including recently resurfaced courts, a brand new club house and toilet.

The Open Day will suit tennis fans of all levels and all ages. We have members from 8 to 80 years of age. The Open Day includes:

Mini tennis for children
Coaching for adults
Refreshments
Fun for all the family
Rackets supplied

3 centre court tickets up for grabs!

The Sonning Tennis Wimbledon Ticket Allocation has just arrived.

We have 6 pairs of tickets to go in the ballot this year including 3 pairs for centre court. One pair is for the Men’s Final!

To be eligible for the ballot Sonning tennis members also need to be a British Tennis Member.

If you are a British Tennis member and you want to be entered into the ballot, please inform SLTC Club Secretary, Simon Kellaway by sending an email here

Junior Coaching Lessons – dates announced!

Sonning Tennis will again be holding coaching lessons for our juniors this year.

Starting April 16th and held on Monday and Wednesday evenings.

Please email sonningtennis to book a course. It is a case of first come first served!

For a six week course the charge remains the same as last year – Members £36 non members £48. If you book for the whole 12 week course cost for members is £66 – discounted rate is only available for members.

Course dates:

First 6 week Course

Mondays
4 – 5 pm April 16th – May 28th – suitable for primary school children (10 and under)
5 – 6 pm dates as above suitable for children 11 years and above.

Wednesdays
4 – 5 pm April 18th – May 23rd – suitable for primary school children (10 and under)
5 – 6 pm dates as above suitable for children 11 years and above.

Second 6 week course

Mondays
4 – 5 pm June 11th – July 16th – suitable for primary school children (10 and under)
5 – 6 pm dates as above suitable for children 11 years and above

Wednesdays
4 – 5 pm May 30th – July 11th – suitable for primary school children (10 and under)
5 – 6 pm dates as above suitable for children 11 years and above

Club Working Party – Saturday 17th March

Spring is here and it’s time for a spring clean at the Sonning Tennis Club!

We will be having a ‘Working Party’ at the club from 9.30am to 10.30am (before our normal club session) on Saturday 17th March.

With the help of as many volunteers as possible we aim to get the Club ready for the new season. Working projects include:

Painting the New Club House ceiling and doors.
Weeding around the courts.
Mopping the club house floor.
Clearing up leaves and sweeping the courts.

All members are invited to support this activity.

Refreshments will be available during the morning.

Please bring appropriate clothing for the work you wish to take part in.

Ladies’ first team come top!

As the winter season draws to a close, our Ladies 1st team, under the captaincy of Catherine Botwright, have finished the season as winners of Division 5. This means that the ladies team are assured of promotion to Division 4 next winter – the highest division they will have ever played in. The club will also receive a certificate which will be proudly displayed in the Club House.

Congratulations to the ladies who played in the team – Catherine, Linda, Kath, Sheila and Milcah. Well played ladies!

The SLTC committee has just announced some important dates for the months ahead.

We start off with our Open day on the 29th April and continue through the summer with tournaments for all members. Make a note of these dates so you can take part.
