We all had a great weekend full of activities and spa treatments. New this year was the falconry display and the reptile show, so even those uanble to take part in the non-stop physical activity were kept fully entertained. The collective brain power of Sonning LTC was sadly unable to win the Saturday night Quiz though the same people, after a couple of drinks, were later seen enjoying the disco and pool table.

Steve and Kath won both the tennis and table tennis tournaments again this year but didn’t quite manage to match last year’s performance when they also won the badminton.

We’ve already booked for next year - the weekend of January 18th-20th. Subject to availability, all welcome.

New storage shed installed

The new shed is now in position next to our new club house.

We will be dividing the shed into two areas. One end of the shed will house the new toilet facility while the other end will be for storage.

The shed was installed in only 40 minutes and it now completes the overhaul of the SLTC club house and shed.

A Biolet toilet BIO-STC-153 from Rainbow Trading Post and a Barnwell Workshop with Apex roof from Wyevale Garden Centre should be delivered in 4-5 weeks time.

“Robbie the Robot” Charity day Sept 11

We raised over £600 for the Royal Berks, Robbie the Robot appeal!!

We had 51 people down at the club and 41 of those were involved in playing in the tennis tournament.

The money was raised by entry fees, a raffle and the profit from the barbecue.

Thanks to everyone for a great day and all the money raised.

A little taste of Oxfordshire

June 5th 2011. Sonning Tennis social event. Brightwell Vineyard, Wallingford, Oxfordshire

Sonning Tennis visited Brightwell Vineyard near Wallingford, Oxfordshire for a little wine tasting and a guided tour through the vines.

Brightwell Vineyard produces award-winning, quality English wines which frequently win medals at National and International competitions. The 14 acre vineyard is situated 1 mile north of Wallingford and 8 miles south of the city of Oxford. The vineyard produces 3 white wines (Crispin, Oxford Flint and Bacchus), a Rose (Oxford Rose) and a red (Oxford Regatta). A group of 20 members took a coach trip to the vineyard and were shown around the vineyard and gardens, followed by wine tasting and a ploughman’s lunch.

On Tuesday 10th May 2011 we completed the draw for the club’s allocation of Wimbledon tickets provided by Berkshire LTA.

The names drawn out of the hat were:
1. Ginny Cooper – Who chose a pair of tickets for Centre Court on Friday 1st July
2. Alan Furness – Has taken a pair of Centre Court tickets on Friday 24th June
3. Catherine Botwright – Chose not to take any tickets
4. Steve Edwards – Took a pair of No 1 Court tickets on Saturday 25th June
5. Sarah Armitage – Chose Thursday 30th June on Centre Court
6. Linda Burton – Took a pair of tickets for Tuesday 28th June on No1 Court
7. Josh Wade – Took the final pair of tickets for Court No2 on Tuesday 21st June

Our new hut is built!

The builders finished the new hut on 11th May 2011. Here it is.
Now we need to paint it (volunteers required this Saturday 14th May at 9.00am), get the water and electricity connected and install the interior cupboards!

May 10th 2011. The new hut for Sonning Lawn Tennis Club is being installed.

The installers started building the hut on May 10th 2011. It should be completed on May 11th. Then we will be adding the electricity, water and kitchen units.
